March 21, 2009 - The Stormhammers go through some roster changes and capture someone to lead them to Triel.
The Stormhammers are surprised when a middle-aged drow wizard abruptly teleports into their midst. Before they can react, he walks up to Fraxx and claps him on the shoulder warmly with a large grin. He tells Fraxx and Drrk that it's time for them to leave. The rest of the party discover that the wizard, whose name is Bob, is Fraxx's father. He notices the others standing around shocked, and asks Fraxx who they are. He tells his father about the Stormhammer and how he's a member of an adventuring party now. The drow hmms and, after confirming with Fraxx that the others can be trusted, he comments how he would feel guilty about just snatching away two members of their party. He goes "a-ha!" and snaps his fingers and teleports in a second individual, a huge, hulking behemoth - a goliath. The drow introduces the goliath to the group as Thunderbomb. He turns to the goliath and says "You've been a loyal servant, bodyguard and companion over the years, Thunderbomb, and I release you from your bond. These youngsters are an adventuring party and could use your strong arm, and hopefully while traveling with them you will find what you are seeking."
He then thinks again, and then teleports in a small, quivering figure - a gnome. He introduces the gnome as Brigs, a sorcerer of untapped magical power, his apprentice - sort of. The drow tells them that he just awoke the magic power within Brigs a few days ago, and since then he's been pure energy and chaos. The gnome giggles and jerks a bit spasmodically.
With the introductions finished, they prepare to leave. Huron looks up at Thunderbomb a bit warily. Fraxx and Drrk keep their Stormhammers cloaks but hand over their Demonskar Ball invitations, since they won't need them any longer. The three drow teleport away.
(Other changes - Huron is now a Barbarian, and Snake Eyes is now a Bard. They are still the same characters / personalities though.)
Huron and Snake Eyes briefly introduce themselves to Brigs and Thunderbomb. Thunderbomb looks at the unmoving Yggdrasil. (Justin isn't there so Yggdrasil is being played as a Healbot once again.)
Thunderbomb: Who's the tin man? Yggdrasil: A...F...K.
After the quick introductions and explanations, they head off into the ruins. They debate on which way to go - deeper towards the center of the ruins, or off towards the web-filled caverns. They decide to go into the ruins, since they don't know how far / deep the web caverns go. They go past the exposed pit trap and enter a large high-ceilinged entrance room with a large oak table, with 12 chairs. The open-doorway entrance to the beach has no doors so they can smell the moisture coming in from the lake/beach. There are two sets of double doors leading out, which Huron and Snake Eyes sneak up to and listen at, but hear nothing. Snake Eyes goes back to the table and stuffs a chair into the bag of holding. Brigs meanwhile wonders if they are going to be fed. Everyone stare at him, confused, until he points out that the table is clearly a table ready for a feast!
They head west into a long hallway with another set of doors at the end. Thunderbomb walks in and almost falls into another spiked pit trap, but he catches himself and they skirt along the edges to avoid it. As they walk down the hall, they notice small openings set in the wall, like murderholes. Suddenly arrows fly out from both sides, hitting Snake Eyes but bouncing off Thunderbomb's armor. Huron spots a portion of the wall that is colored differently, and assuming it's a fake wall, he charges into it and smashes through the plaster into a hidden room behind the wall. An archer and two halberd-wielding humans are hiding behind, ready to attack through the holes. They turn to fight Huron, while on the other side of the hall, another enemy thrusts a halberd through the hole but doesn't connect on Thunderbomb. Thunderbomb goes crashing through the wall on the other side, revealing an archer, a halberd guard and a female human mage.
Huron has some bad luck in the fight and is swept off his feet and bloodied soonafter. The archers shoot at Snake Eyes repeatedly, bloodying him, and hitting Brigs once or twice. Yggdrasil is quickly using all his healing powers to keep the party up. In the other room, the halberd wielder swings away at Thunderbomb but can't seem to hit him; meanwhile Thunderbomb keeps smashing him and gaining temporary hit points from his attacks. The mage peers through the murderhole and hits Snake Eyes, Brigs and Huron with a lightning blast, and then all three with a tremor that knocks them prone. She then turns and hurls magic missiles at Thunderbomb but keeps missing.
Snake Eyes and Brigs run into the room to assist Huron. Brigs blasts a guard and the archer with a weird spell that makes them slide away from the wall into melee range of Huron, and Snake Eyes starts shouting horrible insults at them, enraging them and doing damage.
Snake Eyes: I SLEPT WITH YOUR MOM! Guard: Gaaaagh!! (dies)
After the archers and guards start to fall, the mage decides to book it and run away. She runs past Thunderbomb out into the hallway but Brigs summons a spectral hand which smashes her back towards the spike pit, but she manages to catch the lip and not fall. Thunderbomb trots out after her (provoking an attack from the guard he had been fighting.
Shaun: I'm going out after her. DM: It's going to provoke an attack from this guy. Shaun: Hah, I'm not worried, he hasn't managed to hit me yet! DM: (rolls guard's attack, natural 20.) Shaun: ...I really should have seen that coming.
The guard slashes Thunderbomb mightily, but Thunderbomb just charges past trying to bull rush the mage into the pit. He staggers from the hit though and doesn't connect with his bull rush. The mage responds by smacking him with her quarterstaff.
Huron finishes off the last guard in his side room and runs out towards the mage, as do Snake Eyes and Brigs. Huron intimidates the mage to force her to surrender, and she pales and does, tossing the quarterstaff behind her. Thunderbomb tries to bull rush her again but she manages to grab hold of the edge again and starts crawling along the edge. Huron grabs her and forces her to stop.
The Stormhammers demand that she show them where Triel is. The mage looks scared and doesn't trust them, but says she will show them on one condition...that after, they let her go. They say yes, but she still looks skeptical. She looks around and sees that Snake Eyes has a holy symbol of Pelor. She asks him to swear on Pelor's name that they will let her go afterwards. Snake Eyes agrees. She leads them into one of the hidden rooms and presses a brick on the back wall, which slides apart revealing a hidden door. Beyond is a storeroom full of dried rations and drinking water, with a few doors leading out of the room.
